I too was at Hvalpsund in ’74, with the 2nd Renfrew (Scotland) contingent. The memories of that time remain numerous:- the Police on their BMW motorbikes (until the paths got too rough, when they weren’t on them for much longer!!); those on “punishment” duty emptying the latrines – and following them into the pit (that wouldn’t be allowed now); the giant Asterix; the fascination with our kilts (enough said) and our bagpipers; the myg which made our midges seem insignificant; trying to play football on a surface like a ploughed field; our awful folk singing (which in retrospect was really, really awful, in fact it was even worse than that!) and our awed fascination with the Danish combined troops (about which even less should be said).
Our Group celebrates its 100th anniversary this year and this sparked me to investigate what was out there about our mutual Scouting adventures of ’74, hence stumbling across this site/post. Memorable times indeed for this 63 year old, who retains an overwhelming feeling of camaraderie about that camp.
